Wenlock and Mandeville for the third time hits the big screen

The official London 2012 mascots Wenlock and Mandeville are back in cinemas with their third animated film ‘Wenlock and Mandeville’s Rainbow Rescue’.

The film will be shown exclusively at ODEON Cinemas on 373 screens in more than 100 locations across the UK, before selected family movies until the 23 December.

The latest release continues to follow Wenlock and Mandeville’s journey to the Games and sees them help a school create a library bus after their school library is destroyed in a storm.

The film is based on a true story by the film’s writer, British author Michael Morpurgo who was inspired when he visited Rosendale Elementary school in West Dulwich whose library is inside a double-decker bus.

Earlier this month Michael Morpurgo held a writing workshop for children from schools in London to develop ideas for the fourth and final film. The workshop took place in the Rosendale Elementary school library bus. The children took part brainstorming, writing and storyboarding activities as well working with music composer Thomas Hewitt Jones on the soundtrack. The final film will also be shown in ODEON Cinemas, from 1-31 May 2012.

When it comes to music the London 2012 mascots Wenlock and Mandeville have set the scene with the official mascot song ‘On a Rainbow’. The song is based on Wenlock and Mandeville’s journey to the London 2012 Games and the young people they meet along the way. The single was written and recorded by Tom Fletcher, lead singer and guitarist from band McFly.
