Quirky Spitalfields is one of London's most vibrant and flourishing areas, and home to a world-famous creative community (including the artists Gilbert & George, whose home we pass on this hunt). There has been a market here since 1638 (then known as Spittle Fields) and the market that is here now specialises in crafts and organic foods, and well worth a visit. We also get a dramatic glimpse of The Gherkin en-route, pass by Hawkesmoor's soaring Christ Church, and take a stroll through the heart of the Bengali community, Brick Lane.
